Unlike a simple yes or no DNSBL, Ascams uses a score so administrators can set their own threshold. Ascams says the recommended spam score for mix.ascams.com is between 2 and 3.5 on a drop target of 15. That makes SBL more useful for weighted filtering than for a blanket reject rule.

Before you request removal, fix the source of the listing. Common problems include compromised hosts, unsolicited bulk mail, bad bounce handling, open relay behavior, poor reverse DNS, missing or unresponsive abuse contacts, and a resource owner that does not enforce its acceptable use policy.
- Confirm the abuse has stopped for the reputation period.
