Ascams Block Scoring List

Ascams Block Scoring List
The Ascams Block Scoring List is an IP-based blocklist (or blacklist) for high-abuse resources. Removal requires manual investigation to reduce the abuse score.
Updated on 18 Jun 2026: We updated this guide to separate Ascams scoring zones from the DNSBL drop list and clarify removal steps.

What is Ascams Block Scoring List?

The Ascams Block Scoring List is an IP-based blocklist (or blacklist) that uses a scoring system. Ascams lists IP numbers, not domains, senders, or people, so a single listed IP can affect multiple domains or mailboxes that share the same resource. If your IP address is listed, its reputation score has exceeded a threshold. A listing usually points to automated abuse, bulk spam (unsolicited emails), scams, malware, phishing attempts, compromised mailboxes, or unmanaged traffic from the IP. Ascams says many listings follow ignored or mishandled abuse complaints sent to the current or previous resource operator.
Ascams uses separate zones with different listing rules, removal ranges, and mail-server uses:
  1. SuperBlock: An IP is listed when its score is greater than 5. A removal request normally becomes possible when the score has dropped to 3, 4, 5, 6, or, in some cases, 7.
  2. Block: An IP is listed when its score is greater than 7. Removal requires the score to be less than 10.
  3. DNSBL: An IP is listed when its score is greater than 10. Removal requires the score to be less than 10, and DNSBL listings can require stricter manual review because dnsbl.ascams.com is a drop list.

How Ascams zones are used

Ascams separates score-based RBL zones from the DNSBL drop list. That distinction matters for receivers because scoring lists add weight to a spam decision, while a drop list is used to reject or block traffic more directly.
  1. dnsbl.ascams.com is the drop list. Ascams describes listed resources as currently hacked, sending malware, sending abuse, sending spam, unmanaged, AS-hijacked, or dynamic ranges.
  2. superblock.ascams.com and block.ascams.com are scoring RBLs. Ascams says these zones return the queried IP rather than the standard DNSBL 127.0.0.2 response.
  3. For spam-score systems, Ascams suggests higher positive scores for Superblock than Block. With a drop or reject score around 20, its example uses Superblock at 5 to 8 and Block at 3 to 5.
  4. Do not treat Superblock as a hard drop list. Ascams warns that using it that way can reject legitimate mail because the zone lists abuse signals, not only mail that should be refused outright.

Who runs Ascams Block Scoring List?

Ascams is operated by an individual named Del. The organization maintains reputation scores for many IPv4 addresses. Ascams describes each score as a number between -50 and +250, calculated from internal data and information from other providers. The data can include bounce messages, PTR records, SPF records, reverse DNS, other RBL listings, and scam or malware records. When a score is requested, Ascams says it checks other data providers and updates the last calculated score. Members can request a manual recount or recheck and can receive support on issues such as bounce handling, SPF, reverse DNS, and related deliverability problems.

How do I get removed and delisted from Ascams Block Scoring List?

Removal from the Ascams Block Scoring List is free, but the path depends on the zone and score. To get delisted, first reduce your IP resource's score. You can check your score and use the "remove" button once the score is within the acceptable range for that zone. Low-score Superblock listings can clear automatically after the remove action, while high-score, Block, and DNSBL listings can require manual investigation and take longer.
For dnsbl.ascams.com, Ascams applies stricter rules for non-member email requests: only the current public Whois abuse contact should apply, only one IP number can be requested in a 30-day period, and IP ranges are not accepted through that route.
Before you request removal from this blacklist, investigate the cause of the listing. Ask yourself the following questions:
  1. Is this a new IP address, or have you used it for years? A previous user can leave negative reputation behind.
  2. Are you in full control of the traffic sent from this IP address?
  3. Have you reviewed your mail logs, web logs, application logs, and authentication logs to identify the source of the problem?
  4. Have you checked that the IP is not an open relay, reverse DNS matches forward DNS, SPF records are correct for domains relayed through the IP, and bounce handling is not creating backscatter?
  5. Have you checked for compromised mailboxes, vulnerable web forms, malware, bounce backscatter, or bulk senders using the IP?
  6. If the IP belongs to a dynamic user pool, have you disabled new outbound port 25 traffic that should not send mail directly?
  7. Does your IP provider publish and enforce abuse contacts and operational use policies for the network?
You must identify and stop the abusive activity before requesting delisting. Ascams says a fraudulent removal request while abuse is ongoing will negatively affect your reputation score, making future removals more difficult. If the same abuse occurs after delisting, the IP score will be higher, and removal can eventually require significant additional work. Check an IP's score before you purchase or rent it, especially if you plan to run mail from that resource.

What is the impact of an Ascams listing?

Being on the Ascams Block Scoring List usually has a lower impact than being listed on larger, widely used blocklists (blacklists). Major mailbox providers do not generally publish Ascams as a primary filtering dependency. The risk still matters because receiving systems and hosting networks can use Ascams data in spam scoring or rejection rules.
Impact depends on which zone is hit. A dnsbl.ascams.com listing can lead to direct SMTP rejects when a receiver uses it as a drop list. Superblock and Block listings more often add score to a broader filtering decision, so messages can land in spam folders, face extra checks, or be rejected when other negative signals are present. Treat an Ascams blacklist listing as a prompt to fix the abuse source, clean up email authentication and DNS basics, and request removal after the score falls.
