MXtoolbox provides a robust suite of tools primarily focused on DNS, MX records, and blacklist monitoring. Its DMARC reporting capabilities are strong, offering visibility into email authentication results and potential spoofing attempts. The platform is well-regarded for its diagnostic tools that help identify configuration issues quickly, making it a go-to for many IT professionals.
We've found MXtoolbox particularly useful for its adaptive sender blacklist (or blocklist) monitoring and domain impersonation protection. It excels at helping us understand why emails might not be reaching their destination by highlighting issues like server blacklistings or incorrect SPF/DKIM configurations. While comprehensive, the core strength lies in monitoring foundational email infrastructure.
Glockapps offers a more deliverability-centric feature set, with a strong emphasis on spam testing, inbox placement analysis, and content scoring. Its DMARC reporting is thorough, allowing us to track authentication, identify unauthorized senders, and monitor email flow. The platform integrates DMARC insights with a broader view of how emails perform across various mailbox providers.
Our experience shows that Glockapps shines in providing detailed insights into where emails land, whether it's the inbox, spam folder, or promotions tab. It's an excellent tool for optimizing email campaigns and ensuring content is not flagged by spam filters. Alongside DMARC, it offers IP reputation monitoring and uptime checks, giving a holistic view of email sending health.

User experience

MXtoolbox has a functional interface that is straightforward for anyone familiar with network diagnostics. The free tools are easily accessible directly from the homepage, allowing for quick lookups of domains, IPs, and email headers. For paid features, the Delivery Center dashboard organizes DMARC analytics and monitoring alerts clearly.
While effective, the user interface sometimes feels a bit dated compared to more modern platforms. Navigating between different tools and reports can involve several clicks, which might slow down workflows for users needing to perform multiple tasks. However, its direct approach means experienced users can quickly find the information they need without much fuss.
Glockapps offers a more contemporary and integrated user experience. The dashboard is designed to provide an overview of email deliverability health at a glance, with quick access to spam tests, DMARC reports, and other monitoring features. We found the automation capabilities, such as scheduled spam tests, to be particularly helpful for ongoing monitoring.
For beginners, the sheer depth of features and metrics might initially feel overwhelming, but the platform provides good guidance. Once acclimated, users can leverage its powerful filtering and reporting tools efficiently. The visual presentation of data, especially for inbox placement tests, makes it easier to interpret results and identify areas for improvement.

Support

LogoLogo
First comparison imageSecond comparison image
MXtoolbox offers support primarily through email and phone for its paid subscribers. The free tools rely heavily on self-service documentation and community resources. In our experience, initial setup assistance is generally good, helping users configure DMARC records correctly.
However, some G2 reviews indicate challenges with specific support scenarios, particularly regarding cancellations and refunds for paid plans, where users reported difficulties getting timely responses or direct resolution online. This suggests that while technical guidance is present, administrative support can be less straightforward.
Glockapps provides support through various channels, including live chat, email, and a knowledge base. Users report varying experiences, with some praising the responsiveness and helpfulness of individual support agents, while others note difficulties in reaching human support via phone.
The platform's resources are comprehensive, aiding users in understanding complex deliverability issues and optimizing their email strategies. For intricate problems, we've found their diagnostic approach in answering questions to be quite thorough, guiding users to leverage the tool's capabilities effectively for problem-solving.

Suitability

MXtoolbox is highly suitable for SMBs and individual IT administrators who need reliable tools for basic DNS, MX record lookups, and critical blacklist monitoring. Its ease of use for quick diagnostics makes it an invaluable daily resource for maintaining domain and email server health. MSPs can leverage its monitoring capabilities for their clients' infrastructure.
For enterprise users, the free tools remain useful for ad-hoc checks. However, the paid Delivery Center plans, while offering DMARC and advanced monitoring, might not scale as flexibly or offer the depth of specialized deliverability insights that larger organizations with high email volumes might require compared to other solutions.
Glockapps is an excellent fit for email marketers, agencies, and businesses (SMB to enterprise) for whom inbox placement and email campaign performance are paramount. Its detailed spam testing, content analysis, and comprehensive DMARC reporting empower users to optimize their email deliverability strategies proactively. MSPs managing client email programs will find its multi-domain management and reporting beneficial.
The platform's tiered pricing and extensive feature set make it scalable for various organizational sizes. While beginners may face a slight learning curve, the investment pays off in improved email performance and reduced spam classifications. It's particularly strong for those who need to understand the 'why' behind deliverability issues, not just the 'what'.

When considering the drawbacks, MXtoolbox has faced criticism regarding its billing practices and the clarity of its 'risk-free' trials, which some users found misleading when trying to cancel or get refunds. Glockapps, on the other hand, has had users report issues with rigorous payment verification requests and significant price hikes post-initial use, along with some mixed feedback on their consulting services.
We have pulled the average ratings from G2 for each product, and also included the most recent negative reviews for each product in full. Positive reviews tend to have less detail and have a higher chance of being fraudulent, so negative reviews are a better signal for your decision.

Business Practices are scammy
What do you like best about MXToolbox? It helped us solve the small issue we had with our emails going to customers spam folder. What do you dislike about MXToolbox? I initially signed up online for a month-to-month contract, but then a salesperson got a hold of me and sent me a quote. The quote he sent me was for a year contract which I did not want, so I signed up for the month to month. Once the problem was fixed I tried to cancel and I couldn't do it online. I emailed them and they told me I had to call them. After lots of back and fourth they told me I signed a year contract and I couldn't cancel. I would have never signed up for a year. It was a very scammy business practice. Eventually they stopped responding so I had to stop the payments from my credit card. Recommendations to others considering MXToolbox: I don't recommend them because of their shady business practices. What problems is MXToolbox solving and how is that benefiting you? fixing a problem with emails going to spam

Ridiculous payment confirmation policy
What do you like best about GlockApps? I used to use this app all the time, unfortunately their policies have made it unusable What do you dislike about GlockApps? Was asked to provide bank statements and a photo ID to buy an upgraded plan. Totally over the line in terms of privacy and unnecessary for a piece of software. What problems is GlockApps solving and how is that benefiting you? Not email deliverability

Think twice before doing their paid plans. Deceptive "risk-free" 30 day trial
What do you like best about MXToolbox? I suspect many of the people responding favorably on this forum are using their free tools. Their free tools are very useful -- but think twice before upgrading to their paid plans. What do you dislike about MXToolbox? Like many other software vendors - they make an offer of a risk-free one-month trial. However, they don't actually refund you your money if you cancel before 30 days. Here is my example: I signed up for their delivery center option on November 10, 2018 and was promptly billed $99. I used the service for 2 days, realized the paid features were overkill for my own and customers' needs, so called to cancel November 12 (two days after signup.) They acknowledged my cancellation by email but never credited back my account for the $99. On December 17th I called their toll-free line. Matt on the phone said ("getting a refund would require managers approval and it's not a certain thing.") No sign of any refund as-yet, no confirmation from the company following the call of what to expect on refund. On December 15 I emailed. Their response to my email was "Sorry, we can't process that sort of thing by email. Either call or create a support ticket." Unfortunately, the support ticket option is available only for active subscribers -- so you are left with calling their phone system and having no record of exchange. Attached is an image from their website taken December 2018 in which they describe their "risk-free" offer. https://postimg.cc/mhgzm197 In summary -- Be aware that their free trial is not like how most other software vendors manage their trial promotions. They are opportunistic about billing you and (in my experience) don't honor the refund they promise as part of their risk-free trial. Recommendations to others considering MXToolbox: Use their free tools (they are good.) Their paid tools are overpriced, and they have a misleading "risk-free" plan that will end up costing you $99. What problems is MXToolbox solving and how is that benefiting you? Their free tools will help you diagnose MX configuration issues.

Price Hike, Increasing Costs by 400-500%
What do you like best about GlockApps? It used to be a great cost effective tool What do you dislike about GlockApps? 1 month after setting up and using the tool, they increased the price by 400-500% What problems is GlockApps solving and how is that benefiting you? Being able to test email deliverability - we can't tell how accurate it is

Beware their "30 day free trial" of the Delivery Center!
What do you like best about MXToolbox? The free tools are good, and one wouldn't mind paying something for them, but one does object to being defrauded - see below. What do you dislike about MXToolbox? Tried to cancel free trial only a couple of days in, but $99 had been taken from my card and they have not responded to repeated requests to end it and refund the money. It looks like attempted fraud. What problems is MXToolbox solving and how is that benefiting you? Simple things like reverse DNS lookup helped us to check our email setup.

Good Software, immoral practice
What do you like best about GlockApps? Good software with great email delivery analysis. To be able to test on a freemium and see if it land into the inbox of Gmail, Outlook and other accounts is great. The analysis feature detects most of the issues. What do you dislike about GlockApps? Their email delivery consulting service is a scam, they advertise a money-back guarantee, and during the consultation, they only try to upsell you instead of giving the right solution. They don't provide the invoice for the purchase, and even when asked multiple times, they ghost you as soon as you request the money-back garantee. Also, their email delivery analytics does not detect link issues with Microsoft accounts. What problems is GlockApps solving and how is that benefiting you? It help detect email delivery issue, used it to detect why email did not landed into microsoft account. I wasn't able to find the real reason with Glockapps but it helps to know if the email were delivered or not into Microsoft email accounts (hotmail, outlook,...)
