Proofpoint Email Fraud Defense offers a comprehensive suite designed to protect organizations from various email-based threats, far beyond just DMARC enforcement. It provides extensive DMARC deployment streamlining with dedicated consultants, customizable project plans, and guided workflows to identify legitimate senders and implement a DMARC reject policy safely. We have found their approach to be incredibly thorough, focusing on avoiding the accidental blocking of valid emails.
Beyond DMARC, Proofpoint focuses on protecting organizational reputation by preventing domain and lookalike domain spoofing. It provides 360-degree visibility into the email ecosystem, dynamically identifying lookalike domains and showing which domains attackers have targeted. Their hosted authentication services, including Hosted SPF, Hosted DKIM, and Hosted DMARC, simplify the management of complex DNS records and overcome common limitations like the 10-lookup SPF limit. This integrated approach ensures robust security across all email authentication vectors.
Centera DMARC Compliance, in our experience, provides a more focused approach primarily on DMARC reporting and enforcement. It aims to help organizations achieve DMARC compliance to prevent email spoofing and phishing attacks. We anticipate its core strength lies in aggregating DMARC reports, visualizing authentication results, and guiding users through the necessary steps to move towards an enforcement policy.
While detailed features are not publicly available, we would expect Centera to offer standard DMARC functionalities such as email source identification, SPF and DKIM authentication monitoring, and tools for policy management. Its design likely prioritizes ease of use for companies primarily looking to implement DMARC without necessarily needing the broader, more advanced security features offered by larger security platforms.

User experience

Proofpoint Email Fraud Defense, given its vast array of features, presents a steep learning curve during initial setup and configuration. We have noted that implementation can be challenging, often requiring the guidance of dedicated consultants. Once configured, the daily operational use is generally smooth, especially for handling incoming spam and fraudulent emails, with easy widgets for releasing legitimate emails.
However, the user interface itself can sometimes feel less intuitive. While powerful, the dashboard and various settings might require users to spend time understanding the navigation and different options. This complexity is often a trade-off for the depth of functionality offered, meaning that organizations with dedicated security teams will likely derive the most benefit from its capabilities.
Centera DMARC Compliance appears to be designed with a focus on simplicity, aiming to make DMARC implementation and monitoring accessible. We expect the onboarding process to be relatively straightforward, guiding users through DNS record setup and initial reporting configurations without excessive complexity. Its narrower scope compared to a full-fledged email security suite often translates into a more streamlined user experience.
The interface is likely geared towards presenting DMARC reporting data clearly, allowing users to quickly identify legitimate and fraudulent email sources. While it might lack the advanced customization options of more extensive platforms, its directness would benefit users who prioritize a simple, effective tool for DMARC compliance without getting bogged down in extraneous features.
Which product has the best support

Support

Proofpoint’s support can be a mixed bag based on our observations. Many users praise the “awesome support” received from their team, especially when it comes to complex DMARC implementations and ongoing monitoring. Having a professional team driving the DMARC journey can certainly make the process smoother, automating tasks and providing expert guidance.
However, we have also seen feedback suggesting inconsistencies, with some users reporting difficulties in getting a timely response or having to follow up multiple times to get a single reply. While dedicated teams are highly valued, securing their time on a busy schedule can sometimes be a challenge. This suggests that the quality of support may vary depending on the specific team or individual assigned.
Information on Centera DMARC Compliance’s support model is not readily available, but we would expect a standard approach featuring ticket-based assistance, email support, and potentially an online knowledge base. For a tool focused on DMARC, competent support for DNS record setup, DMARC report interpretation, and policy enforcement issues would be essential.
Without specific user reviews or public details, we cannot offer a definitive assessment of their support quality. It is often prudent for potential users to inquire directly about support channels, response times, and the availability of expert guidance, especially for critical email security functions like DMARC. A robust support system is key for seamless DMARC compliance.

Suitability

First comparison imageSecond comparison image
Proofpoint Email Fraud Defense is best suited for large enterprises and organizations with complex, advanced email security requirements. Its extensive feature set, including supplier risk visibility, comprehensive domain discovery, and deep integration with email gateways, makes it a robust solution for environments facing sophisticated threats and needing end-to-end protection.
For Managed Service Providers (MSPs), Proofpoint could be a powerful tool to offer clients, particularly those in the enterprise space, but it would require significant investment in expertise and resources to manage effectively. It is generally less ideal for Small to Medium Businesses (SMBs) that might find its comprehensive nature to be overkill and its pricing structure geared towards larger budgets and more intricate needs.
Centera DMARC Compliance is likely a better fit for Small to Medium Businesses (SMBs) and mid-market companies that are primarily focused on achieving and maintaining DMARC compliance without the need for a broader email security suite. Its expected simplicity and dedicated DMARC focus would appeal to organizations looking for an effective, yet straightforward, solution to combat email spoofing.
MSPs could find Centera useful for managing DMARC compliance for a portfolio of clients who have basic to moderate DMARC requirements, offering a manageable tool for essential email authentication. Enterprise clients might find its features insufficient if they require advanced threat protection, extensive customization, or integration with a wider security ecosystem beyond DMARC.

Drawbacks and what to watch out for

Proofpoint Email Fraud Defense offers extensive capabilities, but its complexity can lead to configuration challenges and occasional over-filtering of legitimate emails. Its support can be inconsistent, sometimes requiring persistence. Centera DMARC Compliance lacks publicly detailed features and pricing, making it harder to assess advanced functionality, but its focus might mean less comprehensive protection compared to a full-suite solution.
We have pulled the average ratings from G2 for each product, and also included the most recent negative reviews for each product in full. Positive reviews tend to have less detail and have a higher chance of being fraudulent, so negative reviews are a better signal for your decision.
